Cooking 104

Today's class was surprisingly not pasta! Mary Lou taught us how to make...

Polenta with Sausage!

...and I am sorry to disappoint but the cake got moved to next week!! but I guess this is more of a let down to me than you though since I am the one who was supposed to actually eat it!

Polenta is made from cornmeal and is very similar to grits. It cooks in minutes and is very filling.

Box of Polenta!
Ingredients: tomatoes, onions, sausage, polenta, butter, wine.
Mary Lou cut up the onion and put them in a pan with olive oil and chili powder.
She added butter to the pot of water for the polenta. This is only the SECOND time I have seen butter in Italy! Quite different from in the States!
In the other pot, she boiled the sausages. Once almost fully cooked, she removed them to chop up.
Not gonna lie, this part was a bit gross to watch.
Then mixed in the cut up sausage with the onion and seasoning.
While the sausage finished cooking, we mixed the polenta into the boiling water [slowly] while stirring. It will harden very quickly, just like grits.
This is what they should look like!
Once the sausage was fully cooked, she added in a few cans of tomatoes. These tomatoes were basically whole, but you can just use any can of tomato or sauce.
This is what it looks like once the tomatoes have cooked in a bit. Mary Lou said this was watery compared to normal though.
Finished and ready to eat!
My first experience of Polenta and Sausage was very delicious! Better than I had been expecting [probably due to watching the uncooked sausage too closely]. It reminded me of Shrimp and Grits, one of my all time favorite meals and already a request the week I get home :)

Hope everyone is getting excited for Spring Break! I know I am! 5 more days!

P.s. For any future bloggers out there... while I was writing this blog I apparently "ran out of allowed picture space" because I have filled up the free 1 GB... so I had to purchase more room! Which is pretty lame if you ask me. I had no idea there was a limit of pictures you could have... but this is definitely a problem for a girl who gets called 'paparazzi' on a regular basis! haha Don't worry mom, it was only $5.00 for the year or 10,000 pics, so I think that should cover it! Definitely better than starting a whole new blog. Anyways, that's that, just thought I would give yall a heads up in case you were looking at different blog sites to use!
